Nearby stands the famous beach landmark, Hotel Laguna.
INT. Upstairs on the first floor, in room 132, SOLDIER and HECTOR are at a computer looking over surveillance video of the last known location of missing AMBASSADOR. The room is cluttered with video gear and tapes, disks are scattered all over the available tables and the tube is on with local heat wave news as PHELPS reports
PHELPS (on the tube)
The LA Office of Emergency Management today issued an alert for the upcoming spike in local temperatures advising the citizens to stock up on water, not to use air conditioning unless absolutely necessary and if possible, limit all travel on the freeways to prevent congestion due to overheating of vehicles.
HECTOR is busy examining video given to SOLDIER by FATIMA.
Nothing out of the ordinary here, just a routine day at the consulate.
This was the Ambassador's last know location according to Fatima. We'll need to look over a dozen of these tapes and see if there is any clues.
There is a knock at the door, SOLDIER goes over and opens it. Standing in the hallway with a small carry bag is sultry, black-haired young Latina lady YESENIA.
Uh, I didn't think we called for room service, you must have the wrong...
SOLDIER is interrupted by HECTOR
Yesenia, glad you could make it.
HECTOR gives YESENIA a hug, escorts her into the room.
Tim, I'd like you to meet Yesenia, our new recon-intern. Picasso called me yesterday and said she would be here to help us on this assignment.
Uh, oh, apologies, Yesenia.
No worries, Soldier. Just never let it happen again. Now Hector, what have you got?
Ignoring SOLDIER, HECTOR escorts YESENIA over to the computer and seats her.
If you two don't mind, I'd like to go down to the lounge and grab a Margarita or something. Can I bring you anything.
HECTOR and YESENIA ignore SOLDIER and begin to replay the surveillance tapes on the computer screen.
Well uh, OK, let me know if you come up with anything.
INT. Hotel Lounge. The bar is unusually busy for so early in the day probably related to the temperatures on the beach where the sand is already driving people into the water or the shade. On the TV big screen above an empty dance floor, PHELPS sits with NEWSANCHORGIRL at desk.
Well Godfrey, how long do you think the heat will last?
Well into next week according to the National Weather Service. The Los Angeles OEM has set up a command post at the convention center for those who lose power, for the homeless left at the mercy to the heat out on the streets, and for anybody else who wants to drop in and get updates. Details for the command post can be found at our website and Facebook page. Also, be sure to check with my Twitter page, @GodfreyPhelps, for continuous updates. We will also be running a Cover It Live at our KFWY website.
Thank you Godfrey. Now, this just in. The rally for the GOP candidate at the Pacific Ampitheater in Costa Mesa scheduled for this afternoon has been moved up til just after sunset due to concerns with the heat. Be advised also that there will be heavy security presence at the rally in order to prevent a repeat of last April's violence marred event. Protesters who do not have the proper permits or attempt to disrupt the rally will be arrested. More details can be found at KWFY's Facebook page. And now this from our sponsors.
INT. Room 132. HECTOR and YESENIA are busy examining video surveillance tape.
I give up. There's nothing here. I think I'll join Soldier at the bar.
You go ahead, I'm going over all of this again.
HECTOR heads for the door, leaves as YESENIA continues to examine the tapes. Switching to another tape, she stops on a particular frame, rolls forward a bit, rolls back, rolls forward several frames.
YESENIA. (Out loud to herself)
Strange, that pizza truck was here yesterday...
YESENIA inserts another disk.
Here it is again. The pizza truck has been there every day.
YESENIA zooms in on the logo
Pacific Coast Pizza, We Deliver.
YESENIA runs a Google search on her smartphone, gets the address of Pacific Coast Pizza, gets up, grabs her bag, leaves the room with the screen still zoomed in on the pizza truck.
TO BE CONTINUED.
