THE QUOTA QUEEN--
In April 1993, President William Jefferson “Bill” Clinton nominated legal scholar and civil rights attorney Lani Guinier to the position of Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice. Professor Guinier was also a personal and long-time friend of the Clinton’s. Their friendship dated back to law school at Yale University. The Clintons even attended Guinier’s wedding in the 1980s.
By June 1993, President Clinton withdrew Guinier’s nomination after a particularly vile, Republican-led attack successfully shattered her credibility enough to quash her appointment to the critical justice and civil rights post.

Even more astonishing was to watch the Clintons -Guinier’s friend- and other Democrats stand back as Republicans assailed Guinier. She had no cover.

If the Clintons could so easily toss their good and long-time friend in the snake pit and watch as she was attacked, what would stop stop them from disregarding the better interests of my community?

VICTORIA ADVOCATE--JUNE 7, 1993--(OCR DECODED//UNEDITED)--
, WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the Con-:gressional Black Caucus said Sunday that President Clinton's decision to drop Lani Guinier's nomination as chief civil rights enforcer will make it harder for him to get black support. Rep. Kweisi Mfume, D-Md., appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," also was critical of Clinton's performance on a num-ber of other issues of special inter-est to African-Americans. "What bothers me is the back-and-forth, up-and-down, in-and-out motion of this administration and of this president," Mfume said. He cited Clinton's reversal on Hai-tian refugees after calling in his campaign for allowing them into the country and the administra-tion's "total collapse" on legislation that would have brought summer jobs to inner-city -- But Mfume said the decision to drop Guinier, a law professor whose articles on majority rule drew fire from conservatives, will cause black lawmakers to reassess their support of the administration "on every particular issue." "The belief that people of African ancestry .. really have nowhere to go but to the Democratic party, but to the president no matter who the president is if he happens to be a Democrat, that's a gross miscalcula-tion and it should be thrown out the window," said Mfume.
